It’s Birthday Week!

Birthdays…I’ve had a few!     This Saturday, July 8th, will be my 67th anniversary of life. It’s an odd number and I feel somewhat odd about it, honestly. When I think back on that cold December day when I was contemplating turning 60 and started this blog, I have to say, this one feels less heavy than that one did and mostly because so many of you have encouraged my writing and contributed your thoughts and opinions on this blog. That’s a great birthday gift, I must say! So many changes have occurred since this writing adventure began and

Freedom of the Press…It Matters

I’ve stepped away from political posts for a while, primarily because I’ve needed a break from the insanity coming from all directions. Every day there’s a new ‘smack my head’ moment emanating from the White House. The New York Times printed a full (double truck) page of drumpf’s lies last week. It is rather sobering to see it all in print and the list is even longer a week later because he can’t seem to open his little-puckered mouth without spewing more lies. I tried to put the photo in but, I have this google app that turns anything

Excerpt From the Memoir

I’ve been so busy with Cosmo’s book, and other projects, I’ve neglected the memoir. It may seem strange to be working on a children’s book and a memoir at the same time but, one helps balance out the other and kind of cleanses the emotions. Here is an excerpt from the memoir introducing my mother’s fourth husband. He was a real charmer. Any and all critiques are welcome.   Les It was the fourth husband, who verified my instincts about people. I had him pegged the moment I laid eyes on him in the stairwell. His name was Les. He worked

The Secret Garden Tour

I’ve been pretty busy lately and it’s gotten in the way of writing, which is what I should be doing. It’s what I would rather be doing, for sure. But, I accepted the responsibility of chairing The Secret Garden Tour, here in Cape May as a favor for a friend.   The event is this coming Saturday and I can’t wait for it to be over. Mind you, there have been some upsides to this and I’m grateful for that. I’ve met some new friends thanks to stalking gardens and that’s always a good thing. Finding new friends, not

Cinco de Mayo! or as I call it…Happy To Be Alive Day!

It is Cinco de Mayo and that means I’m re-sharing this post from 2010 about how this holiday became my favorite.   Have you ever had a near death experience?   Seen the light, so to speak?  Well, today is the 17th anniversary of mine, and I am thrilled to be here telling you about it.  But first, I have to tell you about the most fun I ever had on Cinco de Mayo… It was in the mid-90’s and my son, Greg, was living in NYC.  A friend of mine from my days in radio owned a promotion’s company

Sparkle For A Cause: My interview with Sparkle Plenty Designs

Back in the mid-2000s, we met a charming young couple, Lee and Andrew Sequeira, who had just started a new business. It was called Sparkle Plenty Designs and they made creative, fun and sparkly T-shirts. They started the business in their home, which was a few blocks from ours, and in a short period of time, it began to really take off. A mutual friend told them we had an apartment in our triplex that was available for rent and put us together. It was such a great match for all of us. We became great friends over the

Big Pharma

Big Pharma. What does that bring to mind? If you’re like me it makes your head begin to explode just thinking about it. Counter productive, no? Well, actually, it’s very productive for them.     I remember a doctor I used to go to many years ago who drove me crazy with every visit. Why? I always try to get the earliest appointment so there’s not a lot of time in the waiting room. With this doctor, the first appointment was usually with a pharmaceutical rep. So I would sit in the waiting room, fuming, while she was filling her

Who’s Running This Circus?

I’m beginning to feel we’re living in a three ring circus. One ring is cruel to animals, another testing the limits of human flexibility and, of course, the ring full of clowns. This is not Barnum and Bailey, it’s our government. Talk about ‘SAD’.     The orange clown only cares about ‘winning’ but, he hasn’t been doing it much lately. When plan A goes down the toilet let’s try plan B and, whatever you do, don’t put my name on it! I don’t know about you but, when I first heard of ‘The Freedom Caucus’, I thought they

The 2017 Philadelphia Flower Show!

It has been a strange winter and it looks like spring is going to be just as weird. February was almost spring like and March has roared in with a blizzard for some and hurricane force winds for others. We’re getting battered here at the shore but, we’re kind of used to that and there’s no shoveling involved. So, today seems like the perfect day to share our trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show. I took a few (*ahem* maybe 50) pictures to show you. Let’s start at the entrance…     The theme this year was ‘Holland’ and

Never Give Up!

It has been a rough week for me. I blame drumpf.     Dave got a cold and I got bronchitis. Don’t ask me why because, if I knew that I could defend against it. It’s been a few years since I’ve had this perpetual coughing jag and I wasn’t missing it, that’s for sure. Of course, I waited until I simply couldn’t take the coughing any longer before I went to the doctor. After a good listen to the rattling chest she came back into the room with a nebulizer for me to suck on while she ordered up
