We All Need A Good Laugh!

How are you all holding up these days? I feel as if I’m losing my mind some days. Most days, really. I keep hoping to see more sanity in the world but, since we have the most mentally challenged Executive Branch of government the World has ever seen, it may be hopeless.   This is why I record Colbert, Kimmel, Samantha Bee, SNL, and soon John Oliver will be back, too. I still miss Jon Stewart but, he did make a surprise appearance on Colbert last week and gave me a good laugh. Laughter is not only good medicine,

New Year, New Goals

The holidays are over and it’s time to get down to business for the new year. I’m excited about many of the opportunities ahead this year.     I’ve signed up with a company offering to pay for endorsements on the blog. Not sure what will be offered but you can be sure I won’t endorse anything I don’t like or believe in. After almost six years of blogging, I think it’s time to make a few bucks for my work. Speaking of my work, the artwork, in particular, it was a good year for reconnecting with my first

You Gotta Have Friends to NaNoWriMo!

I’ve made it through NaNoWriMo and now the real work begins. The word count, 50k, was met but over the course of writing all those words something completely different from my original intent evolved.     I readily admit much of the word count came from blog posts that date back to the beginning of this blog in 2010. Seems I was purging some inner angst, which is often helpful. Back then I thought no one was reading my words, except a few friends and maybe the occasional family member, so I held nothing back. In the winter

The Cycle of LIfe, Is Not Easy to Write About

My last post was the first draft of the first chapter of the next edition of The Duffy Chronicles. I asked for critiques and I got GREAT critiques from many of you. I am so grateful for your generosity and support. I will take it all in and continue to make it a better story. However, in the process of thinking about your ideas and advice I thought about expounding on the brief paragraph about Benson’s passing. I know many pet lovers do not want to read about a dog or cat dying. None of us wants to experience

Chapter 1 of ‘The Duffy Chronicles, Adventures with Cosmo’

I’ve been working, off and on for eight years, on the 2nd installment of The Duffy Chronicles. It has had many incarnations in that time, but nothing ever felt right so I let it go. One of the stumbling blocks was Benson. You see, Benson passed on and I didn’t know how to write about it. I’ve heard it more than once or twice from adults… “Oh, no! If the dog dies I’m not reading the book!” So, I kept trying to find ways around it but you can’t. It’s a series that I hope continues because they are fun

Moving On, continues…

This is the 4th installment of a fiction piece that starts HERE, 2nd one HERE, and 3rd one HERE. This will be the last fiction piece for now. You’ve all been so helpful with your support and critiques. Thank you very much! We will revisit this story from time to time, perhaps once a month if you feel that’s not too much.  The house was warm, cozy, and so welcoming, Emily thought. She could smell fresh baked cookies and knew Tommy would love them. He was still a bit groggy after sleeping the entire trip to Waterville. “Let me take

The Duffy Chronicles, an excerpt

This is an excerpt from The Duffy Chronicles, Duffy Finds His Family. It’s available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.com, and NOW on Kindle. It’s the story of our pound puppy, in his voice. If you enjoy this I would love for you to share it, buy it (all profits go to PAWS), and most importantly Support Your Local Shelter! It’s also a great gift for any child or dog lover, and gift giving season is upon us! Thanks.    I arrived at my new home on a Saturday.  It was early afternoon on a nice late summer day.  I

Making Hard Choices and Moving On

This is the 3rd installment of a fiction piece. You can read the first one Here and the second one Here. If you are enjoying these fiction pieces let me know in the comments and please feel free to share.    Emily sat in the cab unable to believe what had happened in less than twenty four hours. Her entire life was changing and she was praying it was a change for the better. “There’s a phone booth there by the diner.” She told the driver. The cab pulled into the parking lot next to the diner and Emily went

After the Worst Dinner Date Ever

If you missed the beginning of this fiction piece click HERE.   The cab felt nice and warm as Emily crawled into the back seat with Tommy. Warmth was something she would be grateful for the rest of her life, she thought, as they settled in for a lengthy ride. How ironic, 23 degrees below zero on January 23rd. Tommy fell asleep almost instantly. He had to be tired after the ordeal of the past twelve hours. She was exhausted thinking about the night before and worried what might happen next. ______________________________________________________   After she’d left the restaurant and reached

The Worst Dinner Date Ever…a bit of fiction.

“Why won’t you let him take you to dinner?” “Why should I?” “Are you afraid you might like him and then you’d have to admit I made a good choice this time?” Emily stood shivering in the kitchen making breakfast for her baby brother as this pointless conversation with Elizabeth echoed through their new tin box.   There was no point in getting to know the guy of the moment. They all came and went like losers in the night. Her mother wouldn’t know a good man if she tripped and fell into his arms, Emily thought. The current loser
