Let’s Talk Sports/ Sportsmanship, Shall We?

I am the least athletic person you will ever know. I was a clumsy kid who broke her glasses, (sometimes on purpose), at least twice a year, often from falling off my bike. I am a total nerd without an athletic bone in my body.     I’m not a big sports fan, for the most part. I grew up rooting for the Detroit Tigers baseball team but, knew nothing about football or basketball until I met my husband. He grew up in Boston and was a Celtics and Red Sox fan but, Boston didn’t have a football team

To Oprah…or not to Oprah? That is the Question

It is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s holiday today and Nicholas Kristoff, of the NYTimes, shared Dr. King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail. It’s an iconic work that I hadn’t read in many years. I hope you can find the time to give it a read today. https://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.html We’ve come so far in our society since the sixties but, with the current administration, we are taking many steps backward. It would behoove the President to read all of Dr. King’s words but, particularly this letter. Unfortunately, we all know he doesn’t ‘read.’ How sad is that? In honor of Dr. King’s

I’m Baaack!

It’s been about six weeks since my last post. I didn’t plan it that way but, sometimes it helps to step away for a bit. Our current political climate was getting to me and then came December. If you have sons who have their own families you probably know you play second fiddle during the holidays. I used to get upset about playing second fiddle but, I’ve adapted. Besides, they both have sons of their own and will likely go through the same logistics with holidays some day. Our work around for this issue is to create our own

Some Perspective On Our Changing Times

I posted last week about the child molester in Alabama. That was before Al Franken was accused of groping Leeann Tweeden, with evidence of his own making. Now it’s Charley Rose?! OMG, I’m not sure how much I can take. Let me say, child molestation in any form will never be given a pass from me. And, I will support anyone who comes out with their personal story of being assaulted, as long as it’s not simply piling on for political reasons. Here’s the thing…times have changed. Women my age have survived sexual assaults first hand in the

For All the #MeToo’s

I don’t know about you, but for me, I’m kind of stunned at the huge numbers of #MeToo’s I’ve seen since Weinstein was outed. Not to mention the huge number of other disgusting predators who have been exposed. But, none hold a candle to this vile excuse for a man in Alabama.       Writing about my own experiences with sexual predators has a lot to do with what’s taken so long to finish my memoir. Somehow you manage to block those experiences from your mind, simply to keep your own sanity, but they never really leave you.

It’s Not About Politics. It’s About Sanity.

Who among us is not tired of the toddler in chief? I mean, even if you voted for him, in which case you probably don’t read this blog anyway, how can you tolerate his childish bullying?     The fact that his wife is trying to make advocating against bullying her ‘First Lady Platform’ is hilarious, to me. It reminds me of a time when our youngest was getting to an age when sucking your thumb was frowned upon by his peers. Someone would say, “Only babies suck their thumbs.” To which he would respond, “Yeah, exthept for me,”

Let’s Talk Term Limits and Aging

Dave and I were discussing politics during dinner the other night. This is why I need Prevacid daily! These types of conversations have quadrupled since January, and I know you all know why.       The primary focus of our conversation was about age in government. It seems like Congress resembles the old guys in the balcony on the Muppet Show. Crotchety old men. Even though the average age in Congress is mid 50’s to upper 60’s, it seems older. This is probably because the ones with the most power to wield are the elders. We all know

Random Ranting, and Some Good News!

I have been diligently working on the memoir, and the first draft is almost finished! WOOHOO! Just wanted you to know why the blog has been, somewhat, neglected most of this summer. But, as you know, I turn to all of you whenever a rant has built up to the point of making my head explode. I hope you understand and realize how much I need and appreciate you for times like these.   The memoir has been a way for me to escape the crazy news about the idiot in chief, if only for a few hours a

Calling Mr. Mueller!

I am pretty certain there aren’t any drumpf supporters reading my blog posts anymore, and I’m fine with that. But, if there is even one left I hope they will give this post some serious thought. I know a few people who admitted to voting for him to “shake things up”, so they said. Frankly, I didn’t feel a need for that but, I acknowledged their right to vote for change if they felt that need.   What I feel a need for are term limits. You know how it is when you get in a rut and feel

Old White Men Syndrome

I’d like to discuss a problem I feel we here in the USA seem to have that most other democracies do not. Old White Men Syndrome.     Now, don’t get me wrong, I love many ‘old white men’. My husband is on that list. I suppose I should change it to read, Old White Republican Men Syndrome. My husband and sons and male friends are more about equality than oppression of ‘the weaker sex’. I’m not talking about niceties like opening a door for someone being a problem, that’s simply good manners and if I’m at the door
