Mary, Daryl and Daryl…

If you look at the tag line under the header of this blog you will see ‘the ugly’.  Well you have to take the good with the bad and this is about an ugly time in my life, but I’m going to try and lighten it up.  Actually it’s kind of humorous on its own when I look back on it. Isn’t hindsight a wonderful filter? I started telling the story last month about the year I ran away with my 2 year old brother.  I was 12 years old going on 30.  We were living in a disgusting trailer

The Duffy Chronicles and Little Victories

After spending time with my 91 year old father-in-law lately I realize how important it is to keep your mind active! I never would have thought about blogging as a way to challenge my mind technically. I was wrong! The writing comes fairly easily to me, the tecno aspect… sigh… not so much. A while back I posted, Little Victories that talked about how much brain cramping I went through to get the subscribe box on the blog. Honestly, does it have to be that hard?? Celebrating that little victory was short lived, because there is still so much more I

AAAHHCHOOOO!

The whole point of joining the 31 days to build a better blog challenge was to… well, build a better blog! Since it almost seems like a living breathing thing to me, I feel it’s important to keep working toward improving this blog of mine. I welcome any and all suggestions! Honestly! Never hesitate to tell me what you think, what you feel could make it better, anything at all.Today our task was to create a ‘sneeze’ page for our blogs. It’s meant to be a way that you can link some of your best posts, or perhaps a thread

A Blogging Community… who knew?!

This is a re-post from earlier this year, but it has been edited a bit. It just seemed to be the perfect post for the 31dbbb challenge and our task for day 15. If you’re new here, I hope you’ll subscribe and follow. Please leave a comment and I’ll be sure to get back to you! Thanks for stopping by! I have a confession to make. I had never read a blog until this year! The occasional post that someone would forward or I’d come across on facebook, sure… but subscribe to?? No. Now I seem to subscribe to a

Make your dreams come true!

I wrote a post last month about following my dream and getting a beach house. It made me think back to other dreams I’ve had over the years. The 1st one that comes to mind was my dream of getting out of Toledo and living a better life. I can’t honestly remember a time in my childhood that I didn’t believe in my gut that I would rise above the life I was in. I always knew there was something better out there. It wouldn’t have taken much believe me! But I saw a happy life, nice home (didn’t realize

Ode to Pets

This is Benson I’m going to intersperse some of the pet portraits I’ve painted over the years, because this post is my Ode to Pets… enjoy!   Cosmo I stumbled upon a folder of poems. Definitely from the gut, but true poetry? eh, not so sure. Some are better than others, some are humorous, some no one will see til I’m dead! But this is one that I want to share, because it still rings true. Duffy Ode to Pets By B. Hammond If love had a face It would be fuzzy I’ll bet, It would definitely be The face

Hair… NOT the musical, redeux

Since I’ve gotten many new followers and visitors (love you ALL! mean it!!) I thought I’d go back to the early stage of this blog, briefly, to revisit my ‘Hair’ trilogy. The one thing about this blogging biz is that you can look back at some of the crazy times in your life and have a laugh at yourself. As my son used to say, when he was doing stand-up comedy, ‘If you laugh at yourself you beat others to it!’ Very true! So check out: http://www.zeroto60andbeyond.com/?p=33 for the beginning of my love/hate relationship with my hair. My husband’s comment

Kids Photo Day

Today’s task for the blog challenge, (actually it was yesterday’s… (sigh)… a bit behind), is to add a link from another blog you’ve read lately that you can relate to, or one of your own past posts. At least that’s how I understand it. I saw this as a problem because it seemed I had very little in common with many of the women taking the challenge. About 80% of them are young mom’s . I left that world a very looonnnnggg time ago! BUT, I was a young stay at home mom once, and my kids are still alive

What am I??

It’s day 5 of ’31 days to build a better blog’… I haven’t completely done the task for day 4 because part of that is defining my niche. I can’t. What path am I taking?? It started out about mixed feelings over aging. It’s turned into a hodge podge of stories about my life, which I guess would be the ‘zero to 60’ part. I’ve gotten some good feedback and comments on several posts, but they don’t all have a common thread. Soooooo…….. what is my niche? hmmmmm, what’s behing this door?? The blog that got me started was The

My Top Ten Jobs

I’ve mentioned in previous posts about all the moving my husband and I have done over the years, and how with each move I had to re-invent myself.  He was always transferred, and I was the one that had to start over… again.  But, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have traded all the experiences I’ve had for all the money in the world!  Besides, my grandmother had a saying… ‘If you want to keep your hand in the pocket, you gotta move with the pants!’ So here’s my Top Ten list of notable jobs I’ve had going from worst
