Ode to Pets

This is Benson I’m going to intersperse some of the pet portraits I’ve painted over the years, because this post is my Ode to Pets… enjoy!   Cosmo I stumbled upon a folder of poems. Definitely from the gut, but true poetry? eh, not so sure. Some are better than others, some are humorous, some no one will see til I’m dead! But this is one that I want to share, because it still rings true. Duffy Ode to Pets By B. Hammond If love had a face It would be fuzzy I’ll bet, It would definitely be The face

Hair… NOT the musical, redeux

Since I’ve gotten many new followers and visitors (love you ALL! mean it!!) I thought I’d go back to the early stage of this blog, briefly, to revisit my ‘Hair’ trilogy. The one thing about this blogging biz is that you can look back at some of the crazy times in your life and have a laugh at yourself. As my son used to say, when he was doing stand-up comedy, ‘If you laugh at yourself you beat others to it!’ Very true! So check out: http://www.zeroto60andbeyond.com/?p=33 for the beginning of my love/hate relationship with my hair. My husband’s comment

Kids Photo Day

Today’s task for the blog challenge, (actually it was yesterday’s… (sigh)… a bit behind), is to add a link from another blog you’ve read lately that you can relate to, or one of your own past posts. At least that’s how I understand it. I saw this as a problem because it seemed I had very little in common with many of the women taking the challenge. About 80% of them are young mom’s . I left that world a very looonnnnggg time ago! BUT, I was a young stay at home mom once, and my kids are still alive

What am I??

It’s day 5 of ’31 days to build a better blog’… I haven’t completely done the task for day 4 because part of that is defining my niche. I can’t. What path am I taking?? It started out about mixed feelings over aging. It’s turned into a hodge podge of stories about my life, which I guess would be the ‘zero to 60’ part. I’ve gotten some good feedback and comments on several posts, but they don’t all have a common thread. Soooooo…….. what is my niche? hmmmmm, what’s behing this door?? The blog that got me started was The

My Top Ten Jobs

I’ve mentioned in previous posts about all the moving my husband and I have done over the years, and how with each move I had to re-invent myself.  He was always transferred, and I was the one that had to start over… again.  But, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have traded all the experiences I’ve had for all the money in the world!  Besides, my grandmother had a saying… ‘If you want to keep your hand in the pocket, you gotta move with the pants!’ So here’s my Top Ten list of notable jobs I’ve had going from worst

The 7 link Challenge!

Today I’m taking the 7 link challenge from ProBlogger.net, which came about in a timely fashion for me. I had planned to bring back some of my older posts, since all the networking I’ve been doing has begun to pay off and there are many new readers. So, here we go… My 1st post: Here We Go. I should mention that I began with WordPress and have since moved to Blogger. But, my angst over turning 60 this year (happened last week :-0) was what prompted my blogging experience. I’m so happy I turned 60! The post I enjoyed writing most,

Moving Day

After I got back to the trailer with my grandfather he said he was leaving for a bit, but would be right back. He went to get oil. He also brought back groceries. I’m sure my grandmother said, “You make sure those babies have enough to eat!” Once mom found out everyone knew where we were she didn’t seem to care who stopped by. One day my brother and I had a visit from his uncle, Marvin.  He and his wife had a son who was a few years younger than me. Marvin asked me if we’d like to come

Sounds of Silence

My mother had left her 3rd husband, for the 3rd time, and run off with her new boyfriend. We were living in a small town, outside of Toledo, when my mother started having an affair with the guy who owned the ice cream shop in town. He was also married. As a matter of fact, I was going to school with his kids! So when the whole town discovered them, (and you know it always ends that way), he told her he’d set her up in her own place and help her get a job. Now, don’t go thinking swanky

Top Ten things I won’t do when I’m ‘old’…

Well friends, it’s birthday eve. The birthday that gave me a gift… this blog! I began writing this in Feb. while dealing with a few issues about turning 60 this year. I haven’t resolved them all, but most. Here is my friend Annemarie sitting between two of my heroes… Peg and Eunice. This was taken at ‘Girl’s Weekend at the Beach’ last year, and I want you to know that no one enjoyed themselves more than Eunice! We lost Eunice this year, but I will never forget how young at heart and fun she was. I want to be these

to beach, or not to beach… that is the question!

I love the beach! I just don’t enjoy sitting on sand…and I’m not a huge sun worshiper, in the tanning sense. My love has nothing to do with sand and sun. Well, maybe the sun. OK, so you think I’m crazy… join the crowd. I should also mention I don’t know how to swim, and have a little fear of deep water, which keeps me from jumping in to cool off. We have spent most every weekend, every summer, for 18 years at the beach. For the past 10 I’ve spent even more time than that. But I very rarely
