HAIR, Not the Musical part 1

“Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair… Flow it, show it, long as God can grow it, my hair! ” That’s a sort of combined quote from ‘Hair’ that seemed appropriate for today’s post, because I’ve been thinking a lot about my hair lately. Where do I begin? Well, by the time I was about 4 or 5 my hair had grown very long. My mother wanted it that way, and I had no say in the matter. But as I got older and started school it was quickly becoming a problem for her and a pain for

Jeans? no GENES

Ok, I have to admit, I don’t look my age. Although, to quote Nora Ephron… ‘I feel bad about my neck!’ My mother-in -law used to refer to her ‘turkey neck’ and I thought, hmmm I have to agree it’s not so attractive. If I could wave a magic wand, I would. Or maybe some kind of futuristic vacuum system that you put on the top of your head and it miraculously pulls everything tight from your baggy knees on up! Someone needs to work on that one! Ahh to only be seen through the lens that Diane Sawyer uses

What’s love got to do with it?

So, let’s do a brief recap by decade, and maybe we’ll explore a little deeper as we get to know each other better, hmm? As reported by the assorted tabloid news… FORCED INTO MATURITY AT TEN YEARS OLD… PRIMARY PARENT FOR BABY BROTHER MARRIED WITH TWO CHILDREN BY AGE TWENTY ONE ??!! YES, IT’S TRUE! ENTREPRENEUR AT THIRTY… CAN SHE HANDLE IT? IT’S THE TRUTH… EMPTY NESTER AT FORTY! SHE SEEMS TO BE ENJOYING IT! (gasp) WOMAN FINALLY FINDS HERSELF AT FIFTY! WAS SHE LOST? perhaps… Ok, since I rarely do things in a conventional way, we’ll start at 50.

Educating Barbara part 2

So my 1st job wasn’t exciting to most, but at the time it was very rewarding to me. So I’ll do a summary of the assorted jobs I’ve had since then, with some brief comments on a few. I know I can’t get them all in order or even remember them all but here goes… After the shoe store I started modeling for an agency in the Philly area, and then became their receptionist p/t and taught some classes at their modeling school… loved all of it! Then we moved to Massachusetts and I missed it painfully. After getting settled

The Fountain of Youth?

I had planned on getting into all the different jobs and career paths I’ve had over the years that led me to where I am right now… on the verge of SIXTY!   And we’ll get to that soon, but something happened over the weekend that made me forget about the number and I have to tell you that story today. Very dear friends invited us and another couple we love, to their home for dinner Sat. night.  Our hostess is a fabulous chef, so we knew there would be great food, therefore we brought great wine!  There was lots

Obsess? Not me!

I’m not one to obsess about age. Actually, I don’t ‘obsess’ about much of anything. I have always felt the old adage, ‘you’re as young as you feel’, pretty much summed it up. Mind you some days I feel 101 first thing in the morning, but most of the time I feel young. I believe it’s a state of mind. We’ve all known people that were old before their time. Ironically, when I was a child I always heard people say, ‘She’s so old for her age.’. Since adulthood most people would say, ‘She should act her age.’ But, you

Here we go

Yes, this is the winter of my discontent.  The twice weekly blizzards we’ve been having here in Philly haven’t helped, but it’s really not about the weather. I will be turning SIXTY this year! I know! I can’t believe it either! But, there it is… waiting for me just a few months away. Being born in 1950 puts me pretty much right in the middle of the boomers, so I know there are some of you ahead of me and some who will be joining me shortly. And I hope you will participate in this ‘discussion’ (lament?) if you’d like
